Sofia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Ferrara and later completed a Master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology at the University of Turin, both with honors and a special mention for academic achievements. Her Master’s thesis at the Institute of Crystallography (CNR) in Rome, combined with an Erasmus experience at the Banco Español de Algas (University of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria), allowed her to gain expertise in working with both micro- and macroalgae for biotechnological applications.
She is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Verona. Her research focuses on synthetic biology in microalgae, where she applies advanced genome-editing tools to investigate molecular mechanisms and develop new algal genotypes, with the aim of better understanding the structure and function of LHC antenna proteins.
