Luca Dall’Osto and Antonello Amelii attended the Gordon Research Conference on Photosynthesis held at the Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River, Newry, Maine, United States, from 27 July to 1 August 2025. The conference was titled “Mechanisms of the Process Driving the Biosphere Through the Lenses of Experiment and Computation.”
The conference focused on the most recent advances in photosynthesis research, highlighting how experimental breakthroughs in molecular genetics, structural biology and spectroscopy, combined with advanced computational modeling, are driving a deeper understanding of photosynthetic processes across scales – from atomic resolution to ecosystems.
Major trend topics included progress in light energy capture and electron transport, photosynthetic metabolism and cell growth, as well as interdisciplinary approaches linking molecular mechanisms to ecological and global perspectives. The meeting emphasized discussion and collaboration, offering both formal and informal opportunities for scientists of all career stages to interact.
Antonello Amelii also participated in the Gordon Research Seminar “Photosynthesis Across Molecular, Cellular and Ecological Scales”, held at the same venue on 26–27 July, where he delivered an oral presentation on his work titled “In the Canopy’s Shadows: Functional Assessment of Red Chlorophylls Absorption Forms in Higher Plants.
